Just a swingin’…

January 6, 2008 at 8:39 pm (Uncategorized)

This photo pretty much sums up our day with Sue when Dad and I took her out for “Great Adventure #927.” First, it was buffet lunch at the Inn of the Hills in Kerrville (http://www.innofthehills.com/), followed by browsing at their gallery shops. Then we took her to one of our favorite places, the Cowboy Artists of America Museum (http://www.caamuseum.com/). The building alone is worth a visit even if you’re not a diehard western art lover! The museum is located on ten acres of land and the site overlooks the Guadalupe River. The 14,366-square-foot building was designed to blend with the southwestern environment and was built entirely of materials from the region (the mesquite wood floors are gorgeous!). It contains a number of galleries, a library with an extensive book and video collection, a lecture gallery, and a guest house and studio for the use of member artists. The main exhibits change approximately every three months.

After we left Kerrville, it was on to Fredericksburg, where we took Sue to the Fredericksburg Herb Farm (http://www.fredericksburgherbfarm.com/). Nothing much is growing (or blooming) at this time of the year, but we managed to while away a pleasant half-hour despite that fact. This photo shows Sue enjoying their newly-installed swing.

Why you, I oughta….

December 30, 2007 at 10:43 pm (Uncategorized)

Two more of Emily’s rescued cats faced off this afternoon….I realize it’s not a terribly well planned shot (those point ‘n shoots aren’t much on capturing action sharply!), but you can still feel the tension, can’t ya?

Rudy Tooty Fresh and Fruity

December 28, 2007 at 10:23 am (Uncategorized) ()

This is Rudy. He lives across the street from mom and dad. His predecessor was Ralph. Ralph loved staying at the neighbor’s house next to mom’s and started spending more time with them than he did at his own home. So they adopted him. The original owners then went out and got an almost identical cat and named him Rudy (they have a thing for names beginning with “R”). Occasionally Ralph and Rudy cross each other’s paths and there’s a mock duel going on across the yard. There’s something about mom and dad’s house that draws cats to their front porch. Rudy comes running from the hedges as soon as he hears us unlock the door. And because I can’t simply call a cat by his given name, he has been nicknamed ‘Rudy Tooty Fresh and Fruity.’ He is the most loveable cat you will ever meet. He’s well-fed and I assume the owners let him inside when it gets really cold, but honestly I would keep him indoors if he were mine. The street is too busy with fast cars and he’s too sweet to be left to the elements, even in balmy Texas. It was hard to photograph him because he wanted to be petted and kept putting his head up to the lens (hence the wide angle look to his face). So, this is the best I got today.

And the winner is…

December 27, 2007 at 9:36 pm (Uncategorized)

This work of art is in the front yard of a home a few blocks from my parent’s home. We’re not sure if he takes the lights down every year (can you imagine?), but this year he was the winner. Personally, I would give him the award every year, but how fair would that be? The previous winner is down another block and it’s one of those homes where they bring out every single lighted ornament they purchased after Target’s 50% off sale and toss it onto the lawn. And even though it’s not that well planned, they win most likely based on the sheer volume of lighted objects! Well, lo and behold…the winner-every-year didn’t have the strength or stamina to do it this year. He put up such a modest display of lights this year that you wouldn’t take a second look. Guess winning every year lost its thrill.

Happy Birthday, Diamond Lil!

December 26, 2007 at 8:42 am (Uncategorized)

Today is mom’s 76th birthday! We took her to Macaroni Grill for her honey balsamic chicken fix. It was just the girls, just like we did last year. Here she’s coloring with her 4-year old granddaughter, Macie.

Anticipation…

December 25, 2007 at 8:11 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , )

Imagine Santa visiting you at home in Dallas in the early morning..and then after your family travels the 5.5 hour trip to Mema and Papa’s house in San Antonio, you find he’s been there, too, with more presents for you. That Santa truly gets around, doesn’t he?
